ENTOMOLOGICAL KALEIDOSCOPE

While I was working on E for Entomology, I was exposed to such a rich variety of colours and shapes of insects and I was hugely inspired by these elements.
Although I still believed that the alphabet series would be best expressed in monotone, I could not stop the urge of creating something with the rich, bright and gripping colours I witnessed.
Entomological Kaleidoscope was created as the direct response to my desire to visualise the creatures who silently but steadily crept into the internal cosmos of myself.

Overgrown

OVERGROWN

Originally a pencil drawing, coloured digitally afterwards.
The word “Overgrown” evokes, in my mind, images of derelict ruins of human civilisation being taken over by nature, like Angkor Wat. I find places such as Angkor Wat somehow more beautiful than perfectly preserved historic sites.
This piece exhibits elements of wild nature contained in a graphically conformed typeface, exploring the balance between nature and artificiality.

REC.TANGLE

I was asked to create artwork for the musician Rec.Tangle’s album “Heavy Maple”. I created this pencil drawing of unidentifiable faceless girls which visually communicate Rec.Tangle’s mysteriously calm, somehow forest-like music.

Liberty of London

LIBERTY OF LONDON

I was asked by the prestigious department store Liberty of London to illustrate their Summer 2010 theme, “Flower Power”.
I created this illustration based around the 60′s “Summer of Love”. The girls with flowers in this illustration represent the strength of the peace movement.
Objects that represent Liberty and its history are also incorporated into the illustration. Visual references to the original wooden animal statues (which can still be seen at the London department store), the famous Liberty building, and the Liberty print patterns are interwoven in the illustration.

NEPENTHES CIRCLE

Pattern based illustration inspired by “nepenthes” – a jungle plant which regularly consumes insects for nutrition.
