Yuko Michishita

I’m a Japanese illustrator currently based in Sunshine Coast, Australia, soon to relocate to Melbourne, Australia.

I was based in the UK from September 2004 to October 2011. I completed a BA in Illustration at the University of Brighton and started my career as an illustrator in 2009.

The inspiration for my visual aesthetic comes from a range of subjects, such as organic natural forms, historical scientific diagrams and the playfulness of Modernist typography.

Ernst Haeckel’s work is one of the major influences on my passion for creation. Another is the detailed photography of Karl Blossfeldt. These artists focus on the intricate nature of real and unreal lifeforms, and continue to be a great inspiration on my work.

All of my work begins with a detailed pencil drawing. This is then scanned and coloured digitally, allowing me to finetune the artwork to a high precision.

My work has appeared on album covers, posters, T-shirts and crockery.
I enjoy putting my skills to work on a broad range of interesting and sometimes even challenging commissions.

Please contact me if you’d like to discuss a commission.
